Proverbs - Bible study

PROVERBS - INRODUCTION

Proverbs means simple or concrete traditional saying that expresses a perceived truth based on common sense and experience.  The Book of Proverbs is a poetry book in scripture.  Solomon is the writer of the book.  Proverbs can also be said as an anthology or a collection of poems.  From the scripture we can see that chapters 30 and 31 are not written by Solomon.  It is a book of wisdom. I kings :4:30 says that Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.   He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five(I kings : 4 : 32).  People from all nations came to hear the wisdom of Solomon (I Kings : 4 : 34).  Ecclesiastes: 12: 9 also says the teacher, who is Solomon pondered and searched and set in order many proverbs.  The purpose of proverb is given in this verse – To impart knowledge to the people.  Solomon sought wisdom and knowledge from God.  II Chronicles : 1: 8 – 10 clearly tells us that God granted Solomon wisdom and knowledge which he asked.  Additionally, he has been granted with riches, wealth and honour.  But he didn’t use it properly and he used the blessings in a way that is not pleasing to God.  He found pleasure in having more wives and at last he found that everything is meaningless under the earth.  Then he utter these wise sayings to his son and for the people to follow.   It is a great treasure for each and every one of us.

I have been trying to read one chapter daily from the book of Proverbs for the past several years. But there was a curiosity to know more about it. As a result I read and meditated on one verse a day.

I have learned through many biblical research references and notes on proverbs.  I started writing down in my journal what I understood and there are times God make me understood things in a different way.  It was a nice experience meditating deeply the word of God.

I hope this will  of benefit to the spiritual life of everyone who reads it.

In my next post I will be posting down the insights I have got from each verses one by one in proverbs.
